JARED NATHAN CRANE
My creative process is an endless cycle of strategy, improvisation and reflection. It is intuitive and experiential, as I am to play with the borders of interpretation by allowing room in the work for contradictions between specificity and elusiveness, tactility, sophistication and clumsiness. The imagery functions as a purveyor of moods, personalities and emotional resonance. In lieu of the manufactured products that are revered by our industrially driven society, they are the unapologetically strange artifacts of an individual's creative will.
Jared Nathan Crane was born in Richmond, Virginia, in 1987. He received a BFA in Painting & Printmaking with a minor in Art History from VCUarts in 2012, and an MFA from CUNY Hunter College in 2015. While attending graduate school he taught undergraduate courses in painting and photography, and worked as an art handler for several galleries and art handling contractors throughout New York City, including Gagosian Gallery and UOVO Fine Art Services. His paintings and photographs have been exhibited in New York City and Richmond, Virginia. He returned to Richmond in 2016, where he currently lives and maintains a studio in Fulton Hill.
