Randy Toy Studio Sale

Join us in the Main Gallery on Saturday, October 21 and Sunday, October 22 for a pop-up event with Richmond artist, Randy Toy as he presents some seldom-shared pieces from his studio, including works from his Zhin Tu series.

"The Zhin Tu series explored the possibilities of chance operation" Toy explains. "Inspired by the wonder of an unexpected discovery, I developed a printing process that favored chance, and calculated guess, over control. Allowing the process to create the work assured that each print held the possibility of newness and discovery. The method yielded a remarkably focused series that invokes one clear and concise subject: the natural world. Vistas of rolling hills, mountains, clouds, rainstorms and reflective rivers suggest themselves from the residue of fluid ink that has been squished, bled and dragged along the paper's surface."

Randy Toy is a Virginia artist and printmaker whose works have been exhibited in Canada, Portugal, South Korea, Republic of Macedo, New York, Washington, D.C., and throughout Virginia. Toy's work has been recognized and supported by the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts with a Professional Fellowship for Printmaking and by the Crayola Corporation with a Liquitex Grant for Painting. Works by the artist can be found in the collections of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, Capital One, The Address Hotel Dubai and notable private collections.

Toy holds an MFA and BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University with additional education from the Longborough College of Art & Design in England and currently teaches at the VMFA Studio School.
