Taylor Zarkades King + Hannah Shaban Trunk Show

Quirk Gallery is excited to welcome artists, Taylor Zarkades King and Hannah Shaban for a special trunk show event featuring some of their newest handmade pieces. King's work will include graphic jewelry in lightweight aluminum and will be complimented by Shaban's lovely ceramic tableware and decorative pieces. Join us in the Main Gallery on Saturday, November 17 from 10 am to 5 pm. All of the work will be available for purchase and both artists will be with us to discuss their work, their individual practice, and what the future holds after they complete their MFA programs in VCU's Department of Craft & Material Studies.

Taylor Zarkades King is a studio artist and jeweler currently working towards her MFA in Craft & Material Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University. Using jewelry as a lens, Taylor explores the tilt between utility and expression. Working predominantly with light weight aluminum, her work finds its form through bold silhouettes and curiously colorful linework. She is interested in adornments ability to break the mold, improvise, and embrace our ever changing shapes. Since receiving her BFA in 2010 from California College of Art in Oakland California she has taught workshops nationally and exhibited in the US, Switzerland, Mexico, and China.

Hannah Shaban is a Lebanese American artist currently working towards her MFA at Virginia Commonwealth University. In a change of pace from the large-scale figures she works on in her studio, Hannah presents an exploration of simple forms and color layered with her favorite ornamental motifs. She draws inspiration from designs patterning traditional tableware and architecture in the Middle East and is interested in the carving combinations of the geometric and floral.
